We had the pleasure to welcome” Ilusión Flamenca” dance company to give a demonstration of flamenco dancing – two sequences called “alegrías” and “sevillanas”.
Then, they taught us about the origins and meanings of the dance. The session ended with a workshop where we all learnt how “las palmas” (clapping with flamenco attitude), how to dance with our hands, arm and stamp our feet and most importantly, to shout”¡olé!” at the dramatic parts! It was an unforgettable experience and fantástico.
Now we know how to dance a “tango flamenco” sequence and have seen live dancers and musicians in action which I will remember as one of my best Spanish lessons ever!

I wanted to thank you and the company Ilusion Flamenca for two excellent workshops. We are delighted with the demonstration, explanation of the steps and how well all the pupils responded. Your team performed tremendously and taught our pupils so well in such a short space of time.

Guitar, castanets, fans, shawls, colourful polka dot dresses and frills, not to mention lots of stamping … every child will enjoy Flamenco music and dance!
We have experience in organising Flamenco workshops and cultural days for schools across London and the UK. In our workshops, we introduce the children to the history and geography of Flamenco, before giving a live Flamenco demonstration. The children then have the opportunity to listen to Flamenco instruments, and become familiar with the accessories we use in Flamenco. They find out about rhythm, co-ordination, basic posture, arm and feet movements, as well as learning some basic Spanish.
We aim to combine education with fun in our workshops, and come dressed in full flamenco costume with all the accessories used in the dance. We can tailor the workshop to your specific needs, but the basic elements are:
an introduction in Spanish;
a simple discussion in Spanish, tailored to the children’s ability;
a brief talk on the history of flamenco with photos;
an explanation of the costumes and accessories used in flamenco;
a dance demonstration using castanets;
a short sequence of steps for the children to practice;
a simple exercise for the children to complete;
a question and answer session
Our workshops are a colourful vibrant introduction to flamenco, which pupils of all ages will enjoy. We can also come to perform at your school assembly, or at special events such as Cultural Days or Arts Festivals, just let us know your requirements!
Our workshops have been a great success so far - the perfect activity to entertain your class!

"We have had a fantastic day today. The children really enjoyed the workshops and the performance. The artists were really good and also very accommodating! We had little Reception children watching the performance at the end of the day and they made sure the children were happy. "
