The Flamenco Club - Dia de La Cruz Fiesta

Celebrate El Dia de La Cruz with us!

Join us for a social get together of  live music and lots of sevillanas dancing to celebrate El Dia de la Cruz (Day of the Cross).  A family friendly and joyous fiesta!

On 3rd May, Andalusia and in particular Granada celebrates the Day of the Cross, a festival that blends religious and pagan tradition with local culture. The story goes that in 1625, a cross made of alabaster was erected in the San Lázaro neighbourhood of Granada, and locals gathered around it, singing and dancing in celebration. The tradition later spread when children began creating small altars adorned with shawls, ceramics, and copperware in other neighbourhoods.

From then on, the celebration grew, and today it attracts thousands of visitors from across Spain and beyond. On this day, squares and patios are adorned with flower-covered crosses and traditional decorations, creating a lively atmosphere. People gather in their traditional attire to sing, dance, and enjoy a drink, often accompanied by habas (freshly picked green beans).

This is the perfect opportunity to dress to impress, and practise your sevillanas moves, perfect or go over those parts of the coplas that you might get stuck with, meet people with the same interests as you, and have lots of fun! And don’t worry if you can’t dance sevillanas, there will be plenty of rumba dancing for those who prefer to “freestyle it”.
