Dear Angela 

Ramon and Yulia were fantastic. They interacted really well with the students, teaching them a lovely mixture of the history of flamenco, the Spanish words, and the dance itself. They adapted each workshop to the students ages too… all of the students loved it! 

I think my only thing I would have liked more of was the performance at the start, they did two dances and I think I would have loved to have seen a bit more before we moved on to the lessons!

We were very pleased with the workshops, although we think they could work better with younger years, maybe Y7 as they are more motivated to dance and sing.

But overall it was a nice experience for the students and most of them enjoy the sessions.

The workshop with Ilusión Flamenca yesterday was a real joy. We took a group of Sixth Form Students to have a fully immersive experience and it really met our expectations. Angela Alonso was a delight. She was very mindful of the type of language required for the students to be able to follow the instructions. She managed to teach them three whole choreographies with an introduction to the types of flamenco and the language used in flamenco. The students were most delighted with the last choreography for which she chose one of Rosalia’s songs. They also borrowed flamenco skirts and fans and were instructed how to used them while dancing. Angus, the guitarist, was clearly talented and played beautifully for us. At the end, Angela dance for us with a real “mantón de manila”, which was most impressive. She also shared some of her own anecdotes and experience with the students, who were totally in awe with her. We really recommend everybody to book a session with them!

Our students really enjoyed the experience. The flamenco and the percussion sessions were both excellent. We thought the restaurant was very good too and lovely to have the flamenco show.

There was a point in the flamenco show where it was interactive with a chosen student for a few minutes. This was very well received by students, would be great to include this sort of angle too, as well as the traditional show. Last year we all really enjoyed learning the song, this year there was no song and if this could be incorporated again with one of the other workshops, that is the only difference we feel could be made. It was all excellent and we would love to do it again next year .

The workshops went really well. The teachers were absolutely fabulous and they really explained the history of Flamenco well during their intro.

At the beginning of the day though, I was a bit upset because the guitarist asked for some coffee and I had coffee planned for break time but not for the morning. He did ask for it in a very polite way but it’s just to say that schools are very busy places in the morning and we really do not have a lot of time to prepare coffee for staff. I had to make sure that the day was running smoothly for everyone and also register a class so it was not easy.

Apart from that, we were happy and yes definitely we will book you in for next year.

Hello Angela,

I wanted to send you a message anyway, because this workshop was truly fantastic!!

Everyone was amazed by the performance of the artists – children and adults ! -and all the sessions were perfectly adapted to the age of the different year groups. 

It was a perfect balance between observation and practice of the flamenco, and the 3 artists were brilliant with the kids, especially Carlos who had the perfect technique to speak to the kids.

Ah they were just amazing! Thank you so much and thank you to Lola and Tony for coming all the way to see us! Here is your review:

We had an incredible day at Newington Community Primary School celebrating the language the children are taught, Spanish! We were lucky enough to be joined by Lola and Tony from Ilusion Flamenca who stunned the school with a mesmerising performance to start the day, then they lead a half an hour workshop for years 2-6, 93 children in each year group- no mean feat but this did not phase them! They worked so hard all day, the workshops were engaging and age appropriate- they changed for each year group which was fabulous to see! There was a great mix of opportunity for the children to speak to them and Lola spoke aboy the History of flamenco! They then learnt a dance and a song! The whole school was filled with the buzz of a Lola and Tony and we will definitely be doing the same again next year! Thank you so much for making the day special, the children were able to experience something they would never normally see and that is what it is all about!  I would recommend Lola and Tony for any occasion, but particularly a school setting! 

Like I said again we will definitely be coming back next year 🙂 thank you so much!

All went very well yesterday with Carlos and Katherine, and the pupils (and staff) really enjoyed the assembly performance.  

I was able to see part of the Yr 5 workshop – I am mostly in the Spanish Café during our Spanish Days – and the pupils were having a great time!

I spoke to Carlos and Katherine before they left and the Head Teacher walked with them on their way out of the school.

I hope you have received payment from the school already. I did remind the office manager about it.

Hi Angela,

Isabel and Orlana were fabulous. Their lessons were very much enjoyed by all and were the highlight of the Spanish Day. They adapted really well to the different year groups and kept all the children focussed. They were also super flexible as we had to change halls four times. 

The only thing I would say, and I mentioned this to them as well, is that it would have been nice to have a bit of a verbal introduction. I had booked 20 mins for the assembly and they only did a dance. 

Otherwise, all fab. I’ll remind the office to pay your invoice.

Yes absolutely, you’ve been on my list to get in touch with. 

It went perfectly! 

Our member’s loved it so much. Your artists are so talented – they effortlessly provided such an authentic, culturally rich experience. The hosting, singing, playing, dancing and storytelling was just exceptional. 

This event attracted the highest number of attendees we’ve had for our First Friday Parties for some years, and many members stopped by the front desk on their way out to share how much they enjoyed it. Such positive feedback across the board. 

The only constructive comment we received was that they would have liked a little more time dancing, but this was just 2 members out of nearly 80. 

I had to rush off to another appointment about a third of the way through the event, with my colleagues taking over, so I never got the chance to thank and say goodbye to your artists. Please kindly send on our heartfelt thank you and pass on our positive feedback. 

A huge thanks to you as well Angela. We would certainly love to work with Illusion Flamenca again. Plus I will be contacting some of the other orgs you know and work with re activity for the new year.

Lola and Angus were fantastic, they engaged the whole of our Lower School with an amazing assembly. Lola’s singing and dancing was beautiful, Angus guitar playing was simply mesmerising. Two very talented artists.

The workshops themselves were also very engaging, the year 1 students left the room singing ‘Verde que te quiero verde’ after the session. Impressive!

Thank you for providing such wonderful artists for our Spanish Day today.

Although they had some travel issues and arrived a little late, they were just in time for our assembly and the rest of the day went super well. They were professional and friendly, and the pupils were completely enthralled by their Sevillanas demonstration. Carlos was brilliant at gaining pupils’ attention and focus right from the beginning of each workshop and together with Katherine and Angus, they engaged and encouraged all pupils to learn their parts in the flamenco dance and song. Staff commented on how well they managed the groups, how responsive and enthusiastic the pupils were and how much everyone enjoyed their flamenco experience. They loved it!

I’m glad to hear the invoice was settled.

In regards to the workshops, they were great and were enjoyed by both the adults and children. The school really embraced the art of flamenco and we’re excited with taking part after seeing the whole school assembly.

Good morning

I was going to email today to thank you for yesterday. Catherine, Angus and Carlos were brilliant. We really enjoyed the workshops, and everyone from our shyest pupils to the teachers supervising took part. One of the year 8 pupils said it was the best thing she had ever done and, from the corridor outside, we could hear our year 10 pupils singing Yo te quiero, verde as they got changed. The balance was just right between performance, participation and explanation, and the level perfect, so that everyone could take part, but even the keener dancers will have felt they learnt something. We look forward to welcoming you back in future years – definitely hasta luego.

The workshops were fantastic! The students loved it, some students this morning were still singing verde que te quiero verde (even though they were singing really low voice during the activity)! 

Even the staff popping in to see what was going on were positively impressed and some even tried few flamenco steps with the students!

Fantastic! We had comments like “best thing I have ever done in school” or “the guitarist was sick” they were really impressed by the artists skills and during the performance at the beginning they seemed all mesmerised, really enjoying it!  Definitely something we would love to do again!

I just wanted to write and express my gratitude for the wonderful afternoon of Flamenco enjoyed by the parents and pupils at our school, Saint Nicholas School, Harlow.

Hola Angela!

We absolutely loved it! Everyone was really impressed by the performance, teachers and pupils alike (I honestly had to stop myself to go with them and say “let’s dance in 3s”, as I used to do in the Feria as a teen!). It being for years 7 and 8, with some challenging groups in year 8, I was a bit concerned about the success of the workshops. However, they were a complete success!!! Pupils were really engaged throughout and they actually managed to get more difficult pupils really into the dance and clapping! And whoever got lost in steps would love they singing part! Personally, apart from very sore feet (because I took it a bit too seriously!), I was really impressed that they managed to keep everyone focused and, as I said to them before they left, I hope to see them next year. We will repeat it for sure! Most senior management stopped by and were impressed by your artists and their skills to keep pupils engaged, especially the Head and Deputy Head, they just loved it! 

Congratulations for such a great team. We will keep in touch no doubt! 

If you want me to write some formal feedback anywhere at all, I’ll be more than happy to share how wonderful the experience was to whoever wants to read it!

It went very well, thank you. The Head Teacher said it was brilliant!

The children loved the dresses the 2 dancers were wearing and gasped ‘Wow’ when the ladies came into the assembly! 

I didn’t get to see the performance or workshops, unfortunately, as I am always in the Spanish Cafe all morning, though this year it was the Mexican Cafe!

Other teachers said the workshops were good and enjoyed by the children. The dancers gave them a lot of information about the dance in the assembly and in the workshops too, which the children were interested in.

​The Mariachi were fantastic! The children loved it and the lead singer was very engaging. They really brought a party to our school!

The Mexican folk dancers were also wonderful. They were very organised, intuitive with the children and they performed a wonderful demonstration. 

Only thought: for the dance workshops it would have been so benificial to have some big skirts for the children to wear as the dancing is so reliant on this visually. Perhaps a worthy investment for the dancers or they could ask the children to wear them in advance?? Just a thought.

Good morning

I apologise for not emailing before but I’ve had a couple of crazy weeks!

Our Hispanic day last Thursday was a great success! The flamenco display and workshops were amazing!

The artists were brilliant with the children and all of them, younger and older, and even those who can find situations like this challenging at times, responded positively and participated well. 

The group were firm but showed a great interest in the children. They taught them flamenco moves but also interwove this with historical and useful information.

I would definitely recommend the workshops without hesitation. 

I hope they enjoyed the ‘Spanish’ food that was on offer for lunch!

Firstly I just wanted to say that our experience yesterday was absolutely wonderful. The students really enjoyed both the dance workshop and the performance in the restaurant, and today they are all talking about what a great time they had. A big thankyou to you, Lola and Angus. I’m sorry it’s taken me so long to get back to you about the workshop we discussed a couple of weeks ago. Do you still have the availability as I would love for that to go ahead next Friday. I have the budget for it, so let me know and we can organise it quickly. In answer to your last question about time, the slot we currently have is the early one, from 8.45-10.50, so that would be our preference. If not, I might be able to change it for a time that better suits you. Please let me know your thoughts.

Good morning,

Firstly, apologies for not having replied sooner to your email.  Last week we had speaking exams; a Spanish trip to the BFI and year 11 leavers day – as you can see a very full-on week.

The workshops were absolutely excellent.  The explanations and expectations were spot on.   The dancers were perfect! The students thoroughly enjoyed learning the history of Flamenco and were thrilled at being able to participate in the dancing.  It was great!  A huge thank you to the team.

We wish to book again for next year.  We would like this to be an evening event which would involve one year group and parents.  

Currently we are finalising dates, it would be in June, and I will get back to before the end of the academic year.

Buenas tardes Angela,

Really well! I happened to be at the school office when Catherine and Carlos arrived. They said they’d been to the school before, so that must have been in 2019.

I went into the hall to see their workshop with Yr 3, and the pupils were very much enjoying learning all the Flamenco moves!

I was busy getting the Spanish Cafe ready when they did the whole school assembly, but I heard the pupils loved it!

The whole day was a great successful, and hopefully there’ll be another Spanish Day next year, so that we can book your artists again!

Hi Angela,

Thank you to your team, they did a brilliant job! The assembly to the whole school was exciting and engaging and the children learnt a lot about Flamenco dancing. The children all loved the workshops and all wanted to take part. The groups were quite big (120), but it worked quite well, apart from the Year 6 children who did not behave very well. Your performers did a wonderful job again today. They performed with energy and enthusiasm throughout the day and never lost the smiles on their faces (despite the heat they were performing in!). Hi Angela,

I just wanted to email and say how fabulous our workshops were last week (Weds 13th). The whole school attended the assembly at the start and thoroughly enjoyed it – many never having seen such a performance before, and it was lovely that they were able to get involved clapping the rhythms. The class workshops were equally as fab and provided a great end to our topic for this term. We hope the artists enjoyed visiting our school as much as we enjoyed having them.

Hi Angela

I just wanted to say how fantastic the dancers were! People (us included) absolutely adored them and they really made the night different and special. It was one of my favourite parts of the day.

Hello Angela,

It was on my to do list to send you email about the workshops on Friday but been involved in interviews all day.  The day was such a huge success, the students absolutely loved it, every group got fully involved and lots volunteered to perform at the end of the day.  There was such an amazing atmosphere in the school with all the teachers commenting on how good it was too and my Headteacher would absolutely love to have this already booked in again for similar time next year.  I don’t know if you are already taking bookings?

The success of the day was all down to Ana and Kevin who were fantastic!!  The students loved them and Ana was brilliant at working with the students and getting them interested and engaged, lovely rapport and humour used with them.  So can you please send on my biggest thanks to them for making it such a great day. I heard a student went home and was telling his cousins about it and teaching them the moves!  When I saw students today some were doing the moves so it clearly had an impact on them.

Thank you again and if you can let me know if it is possible to already book you for this time next year?

Hi Angela

Saturday went well. The girls enjoyed it once they got going.  The groups were small but that was nice really.  Even the headmistress came and joined in.  Anita and the team were very nice indeed and our Spanish girls really loved speaking Spanish with them.  Our dancers enjoyed experiencing something different.  Anita said our floor was the best they had danced on for some time.  So, that was good.  Do thank them all.  We ended the day with a tapas and paella evening which all enjoyed.

I have asked the bursary to settle the bill so the money should appear fairly soon if not already.   Just let me know if not and I will chase it up.

Thank you and we look forward to having another Spanish day in a couple of years.

Once again, a  successful flamenco workshop with professional artistes! Such an enjoyable day for the year 3 children; staff enjoyed it too!
The children were throughly engaged and were able to pick up the dance steps relatively quicky. The assembly to kick off the day was useful for children’s understanding of the workshop and it was lovely for the artistes to interact and question children on their knowledge and understanding.
